Great customer service, how RARE for art thou0

by Glen Tancott

One thing that really bothers me is poor customer service!

I can’t tell you enough how angry I get when a service provider neglects a customer or a potential customer. I believe that when you are paying for something you should be treated like a king as the main aim of a company is to make a profit and you are contributing to that. No matter how small your contribution or how infrequently you contribute, you are still playing a part in the amassing of revenue for the service provider. Read the rest of this entry »

Franshisor of the year Finalist 2007 appoints Sightings0

by Brandon Tancott

Auto-Mate Service Centres has appointed Sightings as its online marketing partner this month. Auto-Mate is a new arrival in the Automotive Service industry but is blazing ahead at an incredibly fast rate. Auto-mate opened 17 branches in the short period of just two years and last year saw them as finalists in FASA’s Newcomer Franshisor of the Year 2007 Award.

We are extremely excited about this relationship, and have begun the initial re-design process of the website, set to be launched within the month under the guidance of MD Josh Broome. Auto-Mate have a refreshing and unique approach to the industry, choosing to open their service centres in shopping centre complexes and not in dusty and obscure industrial zones. Their premises are upmarket, clean and attractive.

This blend of innovation and forward thinking deserves a modern and complimentary website, and that’s what we plan to deliver in true Sightings style. Welcome Auto-Mate!

Open Source it’s biggest strength is the community1

by Charles Coleman
Generically, open source refers to a program in which the source code is available to the general public for use and/or modification from its original design free of charge, i.e., open. Open source code is typically created as a collaborative effort in which programmers improve upon the code and share the changes within the community. Open source sprouted in the technological community as a response to proprietary software owned by corporations. From http://www.webopedia.com/

Working with an Open Source project can have huge advantages for both developers and their clients.

The biggest strength of an Open Source project is the community. Having a large group of people working on the same project to improve and extend its functionality can produce a high quality, extremely innovative project at relatively low costs and development time. It also helps that a large group will be able to test a new version of the system to locate any bugs within it without the need for long and extensive testing by a small group of individuals. The bugs can then be submitted to the community to be corrected to ensure the system’s stability.

Death to Tables - Why are they not teaching the correct use of CSS0

by Gaynore Adams

Traditional Tables are the enemy, and not the happy, klutzy ‘frienemies’ of Old School TV shows who let the hero’s go for ‘old times sakes’, they are the quiet manipulative buggers that sneak in, offer you an easy escape, then completely do you over.

Though tables may seem the faster and easier option, when it comes to layout… it has a lot of baggage. Your code is untidy and huge, filled with unnecessary, repetitive tags. 99% of the time it will freak out in Firefox or IE (usually Firefox as traditional table based designs aren’t standards compliant so they disagree with the Good browsers), there really isn’t as much freedom as there is in a CSS based design.
