Payment Gateway

In simple terms a Payment Gateway allows the secure transaction of credit card funds from users on your website to your merchant account. In essence it’s your point of sale online.

The basic process that this transaction follows is:

1. An order is placed
2. The order is encrypted by the web browser and sent to the merchant’s server through SSL encryption.
3. This is then forwarded to the Payment Gateway through another SSL
4. The Payment Gateway communicates with the acquiring bank and the processor sends the transaction to the card association (i.e. MasterCard, Visa)
5. The card issuing bank receives the authorization request and sends a response back to the Payment Gateway, approving or declining the transaction.
6. The Payment Gateway then forwards this response to the website.
7. The entire process takes 2-3 seconds,
8. This process will allow the Merchant to ship the goods, or allow the access or download.
