Windows Mail (vista)
1. Click Start | All Programs | Windows Mail

2. If this is the first time that your Windows Mail has been run, the mail setup wizard will pop up, click Cancel, then Yes

3. If Windows Mail Import dialog box pops up, click Cancel, then Yes

4. Click Tools | Accounts...| Add


5. Select E-mail Account and click Next

6. In the Display name box, type your name
This is the name that recipients will see when you send them an email message

7. Click Next
The Internet E-mail Address screen will be displayed


8. In the E-mail address box, enter your full LSE email address, e.g. i.j.smithy@lse.ac.uk

9. Click Next
The Set up e-mail servers screen will be displayed


10. Select IMAP from the drop-down list - this step is very important

11. In the Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server box, enter exchange.lse.ac.uk


12. In the Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name box, enter smtp.lse.ac.uk
Please note that this server will only send mail from your LSE account. If you are connecting from outside School you may find it easier to use your Internet Service Provider SMTP server.


13. Tick Outgoing server requires authentication and click Next


14. In the E-mail username box, enter your account name in the form lse\username\email alias where username is your LSE username and email alias is your LSE email name without @lse.ac.uk; e.g. lse\smithyijp\i.j.smithy

15. Enter your LSE password, which is case sensitive
16. Tick Remember password if you wish to save your password
17. Click Next


18. Ensure that Do not download my email and folders at this time is unticked
19. Click Finish


20. Windows Mail now downloads a copy of your mail from the server, wait for this process to complete.
21. Click Close

22. To use SSL, click Tools | Accounts...
Note: LSE recommends that you use SSL to prevent your username and password being sent over the internet unencrypted
23. Under Mail, select your LSE email account
24. Click Properties



25. Click the Advanced tab
26. Under Incoming mail (IMAP):, tick This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
27. Click the Servers tab


28. Under Outgoing Mail Server section, ensure that My server requires authentication is ticked
29. Click Settings...


30. Select Log on using
31. In the E-mail username, enter your username in the form lse\username where username is your LSE username
32. Enter your password
33. Tick Remember password
34. Ensure that Log on using Secure Password Authentication is unticked
35. Click OK | OK | Close.
